Ali Shawwa is a multidisciplinary Kuwaiti artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture and digital fabrication. His work explores memory, transformation and the enduring relationship between people, place and the natural world. With a background in Environmental Design, Shawwa has maintained an independent studio practice for more than three decades. Although largely self-taught, his artistic development has been enriched through mentorship with Iraqi architect and artist Maath Alousi and Cypriot master potter Valentinos Charalambous, experiences that continue to influence his understanding of material, form and process.Across different bodies of work, Shawwa examines themes of presence, connection and change. His practice has evolved from figurative narratives to increasingly abstract explorations of landscape and memory, while remaining rooted in a fascination with the quiet relationships that exist between living beings and their environments. His work has been exhibited in galleries and art fairs in London and Dubai and is held in private collections internationally. He lives and works in Dubai.Exhibitions2024 Sediments of Memory, RAW Dubai, UAE2021 Almurabba’ Art, Ajman Ministry of Tourism, UAE2021 Alseef Art, MERAAS x Dubai Culture, UAE2020 SIKKA, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, UAE2020 Quoz Art, Kave, Alserkal Avenue, Dubai, UAE2018 Dubai Art Week, Dubai Design District, UAE2017 Abwab, Dubai Design Week, UAE2017 LebMASH Art Auction, Paddle8 Gallery, New York, USA2017 Rise by EMAAR, Dubai Creek Harbour, UAE2016 ‘Auction III: Shifting Forward’, Emergeast, Dubai, UAE2015 ‘Auction 2.0’, Emergeast, Dubai, UAE2015 Art Sawa Gallery, Dubai, UAE2015 ‘Like’ Emergeast Exhibition, Artspace, London, UK
